With the advent of future developments in science and technology, we will assign more and more decision making to machines. At present this is evident in military systems in which electronic sensors maintain the ideal flight characteristics in advanced aircraft. The capacities of computers today exceed five hundred trillion bits of information per second. The complexity of today’s civilization is far too complex for human systems to manage without the assistance of electronic computers. Computers of today are relatively primitive compared to those that will evolve in the future. Eventually the management of social systems will call for require electronic sensors interconnected with all phases of the social sequences thus eliminating the need for politics.

Today modern industrial plants have built in automatic inventory systems, which order materials such as bearings and other mechanical replacements well in advance.

We believe it is now possible to achieve a society where people would be able to live longer, healthier, and more meaningful productive lives. In such a society, the measure of success would be based upon the fulfillment of one’s individual pursuits rather than the acquisition of wealth, property, and power. Although many of the concepts presented here may appear as unattainable goals, all of the ideas are based upon known scientific principles. It is not my purpose to write an article that would be acceptable to people this is not the concern of science.

When one considers the enormity of the challenges facing society today, we can safely conclude that the time is long overdue for us to reexamine our values, and to reflect upon and evaluate some of the underlying issues and assumptions we have as a society. This self-analysis calls into question the very nature of what it means to be human, what it means to be a member of a "civilization" and what choices we can make today to ensure a prosperous future for all the world's people.

At present we are left with very few alternatives. The answers of yesterday are no longer relevant. Either we continue as we have been with our outmoded social customs and habits of thought, in which case our future will be threatened, or we can apply a more appropriate set of values that are relevant to an emergent society.

Total City Systems

It would be far easier and would require less energy to build new, efficient cities than to attempt to update and solve the problems of the old ones. The Venus Project proposes a Research City that would use the most sophisticated available resources and construction techniques. Its geometrically elegant and efficient circular arrangement will be surrounded by, and incorporated into the city design, parks and lovely gardens. This city will be designed to operate with the minimum expenditure of energy using the cleanest technology available, which will be in harmony with nature to obtain the highest possible standard of living for everyone. This system facilitates efficient transportation for city residents, eliminating the need for automobiles.

Beyond the Vision

Venus Project - Research Center
Many of the ideas on this web site are being translated into reality NOW. Phase One of The Venus Project is the twenty-five acre design center in still pristine south-central Florida, where the future is currently taking shape. The actual buildings and conference center are supplemented by models, illustrations, blueprints, posters, books and video presentations. These are the first steps that have been completed to help one see, feel, and touch the future.

Why are the first buildings designed for The Venus Project dome-shaped? The dome requires the least amount of material to enclose a given area. It offers ease of fabrication and prefabrication. It is the shape of maximum strength and stability. When properly engineered, the dome can withstand extremely high wind loads and is resistant to earthquakes, termites, rodents, and fire. Most of all, being constructed of concrete, it preserves our forests.

The domes use reinforced concrete, which is readily available and easy to fabricate. It is well insulated and soundproof. It offers limitless potential of freeform design configuration.

Venus Project - Research CenterWe can fabricate kitchen cabinets, furniture and a great deal of the interior as an integral part of the building, which requires little maintenance and repair.

Nature has evolved the dome configuration as the most efficient enclosure for the human brain; thus, it could be said that we all live in domes!

The buildings shown are the shape of things to come - not just the shape of architecture, but of a way of life that is attainable now. It can be clean, secure, high-tech, aesthetically pleasing, and yet in harmony with nature.

The Venus Project provides the best of science and technology while preserving nature's balance.

If technology does not liberate all people for the pursuit of higher aspirations in human achievement, then all its technical potential will be meaningless.

The machine in the foreground is a multi-function unit. Here, it is used to lift and insert prefabricated housing components into a support structure. Although these "prefab" units will be composed of standard components, they will be of a modular design of such a wide and diverse array as to allow maximum individual expression in interior design and décor.

Automated Cranes

The construction of these industrial and research complexes in the Circular City can be carried out by robotic equipment that will receive instructions via satellite. Automated cranes travel along the buildings' length installing floors, windows, curtain walls, roofing, and other components from the ground up. These devices will contain sensors to minimize industrial accidents or collisions with other devices or living beings.

This scene depicts a laser excavator of the future. Such devices, which could be directed via satellite, would be capable of fusing the earth beneath it into a molten magma-like material. This machine would be able to change its shape to conform to a wide range of contours such as canals, roads, and waterways.

These "multi access industrial robots" will utilize vast information resources, which will enable them to received commands via satellite up-link or on-site. They can also be designed to take appropriate actions in the absence of human directives by combining an array of sensors and receivers with sophisticated decision making abilities. They will be capable of handling a wide range of industrial production tasks, and will be able to upgrade their level of service and replace defective or worn parts. These mega robots will communicate with one another to coordinate delivery of the required materials for each project.

There future of nanotechnology offers enormous potential, Nanotechnology combines optics and lasers, and will eventually enable us to assemble mater, atom by atom, into whatever molecular structure is needed. Nanotechnology will lead to a sub-microscopic revolution in all fields, including the way in which we conduct human affairs.

Self Contained Dwellings

The Venus Project recommends that the present state and aims of architecture be redefined to fit the evolving needs of individuals in this new, emergent culture.

 

The architecture and individual dwellings of future cities will evolve on an entirely different basis from today’s houses. With the intelligent application of humane technologies, we will be able to provide and allow for a wide array of unique individual homes. Their structural elements will be flexible and coherently arranged to best serve individual preference. These pre-fabricated, modular homes, embodying a high degree of flexibility inconceivable in times past, could be built anyplace one might imagine, amidst forests, atop mountains, or on remote islands.

Venus Project - Intelligent Housing

All of these dwellings can be designed as self-contained residences with their own thermal generators and heat concentrators. Photovoltaic arrays would be built into the skin of the building and into the windows themselves. “Thermopanes” would be used to tint out the bright sunlight by variable patterns of shading. All these features could be selected by the occupant to supply more than enough of the energy required to operate the entire household.

Homes could be prefabricated of a new type of pre-stressed, reinforced concrete with a flexible ceramic external coating that would be relatively maintenance free, fireproof, and impervious to the weather. Their thin shell construction can be mass-produced in a matter of hours. With this type of construction, there would be minimal damage from earthquakes and hurricanes.

DÜNYA'NIN EN BÜYÜK EKOLOJİ PROJESİ: BİYOSFER-2


Biyosfer-2
1990’ların başında bazı bilim adamları, Biyosfer-2 adı verilen dünyanın en büyük ekoloji projelerinden biri üzerinde çalışıyordu. Proje ismini ABD’de ki Arizona Çölü’nde yer alan dev yapıdan alıyordu. Burası Arizona Çölü’nde 13.000 m2’lik bir alana yayılan cam ağırlıklı yapı malzemeleri ve betonla inşa edilmiş, kapıları dışarıya sımsıkı kapatılmış bir yaşam alanıydı. Görünümü dev bir serayı andırıyordu. Yapılan planlara göre, dış dünyaya kapalı bu dev yapının içinde, yeryüzünde yaşama kaynaklık eden su, oksijen ve azot çevrimi gibi mekanizmaların kendiliğinden işlediği bir ekosistem kurulacaktı. Yeryüzünden izole edildiği halde işleyecek bu ekosistem 2 yıl boyunca içerideki 8 kişiye de hayat imkânı sağlayacaktı. Burada küçük derecikler akıyor, bitki örtücükleri gelişiyor, buharlaşma-terlemeye bağlı yağmurlar yağıyordu. Bütün besin maddeleri yapının içinde üretiliyordu.

Biyosfer-2 o güne kadar oluşturulan kapalı araştırma alanlarının en büyüğü ve en kompleksiydi. Bu nedenle Biyosfer-2 için kendi alanının en büyük projesi demek yanlış olmayacaktır.

Biyosfer-2Deneme sona erip de kapılar açıldığında, insanlar içeride işlerin hiç de planlandığı gibi gitmediğini öğrendi. İçerideki oksijen oranı % 14’e düşerek deniz seviyesinden 5300 metre yükseklikteki düzeye inmişti. Karbondioksit konsantrasyonunda ani yükselmeler olmuş, azot oksit miktarı ise insan beyninde hasara yol açacak oranlara ulaşmıştı. Temiz su sağlayan sistem kirlenmiş, Biyosfer-2'de yaşayan 25 omurgalı canlı türünden 19’u yok olmuş, bitkilerin tozlaşmasını sağlayan böceklerin tamamı ölmüş, göllerdeki yosunlar aşırı büyümüş ve gıda bitkileri sarmaşıklarla sarılıp boğulmuştu. Biyosfer-2’deki felaketler bununla da kalmamış tüm tesisi karıncalar, çekirgeler ve hamamböcekleri istila etmişti.(1)

KISA ÜTOPYA TARİHÇESİ


Ütopya
, aslında olmayan, tasarlanmış olan ideal toplum ve devlet şekli anlamı taşır. Köken olarak Yunanca "yok/olmayan" anlamındaki ou, "mükemmel olan" anlamındaki eu ve "yer/toprak/ülke" anlamındaki topos sözcüklerinden türemiştir. Kullanımı Thomas More'un 1516'da yazdığı De Optimo Reipublicae Statu deque Nova Insula Utopia veya kısaca Utopia isimli kitabıyla yaygınlaşmıştır.

Ütopyalar, bugün gerçekleşmesi imkansız toplum tasarımlarıdır. Ütopyalar üzerine görüşler iki biçimde ortaya çıkmıştır. Bir kısmı özendirici, istenen nitelikte, diğer bir kısmı ise korkutucu, ürkütücü ütopyalardır.

Distopya olumsuz ütopyadır Totaliter ve baskıcı toplumları ifade eder. Örnekler; Jack London'nın The Iron Heel’i, George Orwell'in 1984’i; Aldous Huxley'in Brave New World’u; Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange; Alan Moore's V for Vendetta; Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid'ın Tale; Evgenii Zamiatin'nın We’si; Ayn Rand'nin Anthem’i; Lois Lowry'in The Giver’ı; Samuel Butler'ın Erewhon’ı; Chuck Palahniuk'un Rant’ı; and Cormac McCarthy'ın The Road’ı.

Eutopya olumlu ütopyadır. Mükemmel ama kurgusal değildir.

More’un ütopyası birçok açıdan Platon’un Devlet’ine dayanır.Sefiller ve fakirler toplumdan ayıklanır. Çok az yasa vardır ve avukat yoktur, çok az savaş vardır. Toplum bütün dinlere hoşgörülüdür. Bazı okuyucular bu hayali topluma sıcak bakmazken bazıları millet için gerçekçi bir plan olarak gördü. Bazıları da More’un ütopyasını bir ideal toplum arayışından çok İngiliz toplumu için bir taşlama olarak algıladı.

, eğitim imkanlarından yoksun çocukların topluma yararlı bireyler olarak yetiştirilmesi amacıyla 1973 yılında yazar Aziz Nesin tarafından kurulmuştur.

Nesin VakfıVakıf, ailelerin onayı ile ilkokul çağı ve öncesindeki çocukları İstanbul-Çatalca'daki vakıf binasında kendi istekleriyle vakıftan ayrılana ve kendi ayakları üstünde duracak olgunluğa erişene kadar yetiştirir. Vakıf, kırk dolayında çocuğa hizmet verecek kapasiteye sahiptir.

Vakfın giderleri Aziz Nesin'in eserlerinin telif haklarıyla, gayri-menkul gelirleriyle ve bağışlarla karşılanır. 1972'den 1995'e kadar vakfı Aziz Nesin yönetmiştir. 1995'den beri vakfın yönetimini oğlu Ali Nesin üstlenmiştir.

Vakıfta Aziz Nesin'in eşyalarının sergilendiği bir müze de yer almaktadır.

Yeşillikler İçinde Bir Sanat Fabrikası


Gümüşlüğe gidiyorduk.. Gümüşlük yolu üzerinde ilginç mi ilginç bir tabela dikkatimizi çekti.. Nasıl çekmesin ki.. Üzerinde otel, cafe, bar değil, Gümüşlük Akademisi yazıyordu.. Nasıl yani dedik ve tabelanın gösterdiği yöne doğru hareket ettik.
Bir süre sonra yol daraldı ve bu dar yolun sonunda karşımıza sahiden bir “Sanat Akademisi” çıktı..

Nasıl olur da bu yeri biz duymadık, e yuh bize yani gibi absürt düşünceler içerisinde etrafa bakarken arkamızdan bir ses geldi..  Bu ses bize merhaba, buyurun diyen kişiye aitti.
 
Merhaba diyen kişinin yüzündeki sakinlik ise bizi Gümüşlük Akademisi kadar şaşırttı.. 
Gümüşlük Akademisi’nin kurulduğu yerin sakinliği, stressiz ortamı burada çalışan kişilerin yüzlerine de yansımış.
